LFCC News - July 2020

News

Over the last few months there hasn’t been much LFCC news to report, but with the easing of the lock-down, and hopefully the easing of the Leicester lock-down soon, we will begin to see some club activities resume.

Our last event was the Rutland and Beyond Audax, way back in February! After a few false start due to storms and HQ availability, the event ran on the 23rd February with over 100 entries and 45 riders on the day braving the typical February conditions. Our April 200km Audax ‘Another Slice of Rutland’ was cancelled, as were June’s evening 10 time trials. The decision was made early on to also suspend the Century Challenge given the circumstances.

During lock-down, LFCC has been represented virtually at the East Midlands Interclub Zwift League by both our men and women and at the end of June LFCC were third in the league. Our junior section, LFCC Rockets, have met most weeks for virtual roller sessions - thanks to Helen Jackson for organising these.

Looking Forward

Following July’s committee meeting, we now have a skeleton plan for resuming club runs. There was unanimous agreement however that we should wait until the Leicester lock-down is ended. Due to the need to limit group sizes to 6, it's going to take some significant organisation so please watch this space. Initially we will limit this to Saturdays and club members only, until we are happy that the format works and everyone understands how to make it work.

It looks likely that we will need volunteer leads/coordinators to make each group of six work. We will only be able to run as many groups as we have coordinators, so when we’re ready, please consider volunteering for this.

The Century Challenge is now back up and running, however should you be unable to ride this month due to the Leicester lock-down, the same code can be entered this month and riders will not be disqualified (see here).

Unfortunately our September road race has now been cancelled. Our Open 10 TT, scheduled for the 2nd August is currently under review. This situation around the cyclo-cross race (November) is still evolving and will depend on the LXCL decision to run the league or otherwise - hopefully we can run a least one race this year!
