1923 - 2023 our centenary year

Founded in 1923 by a group of enthusiasts in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire, Leicester Forest Cycling Club is one of the oldest and most respected cycling clubs in the UK.

In its centenary year, the club is proud to continue to serve its diverse local community in Leicester and Leicestershire, to provide opportunities at every level for anyone interested in cycling and to represent the interests of cyclists in our city and county.

In the last century the club has had significant impact on the cyclists of Leicester and Leicestershire and has produced many local, county and national champions in all aspects of cycle racing; cyclo-cross, mountain biking, time trials, road, track and beyond.

LFCC has a proud history of being an organised, sensibly structured and well-managed club. This history continues today, with the club achieving British Cycling Go-Ride club status and being accredited as part of the Club Development Programme. This makes the club one of a select group of British cycling clubs to achieve this status which recognises and rewards high standards in fun, inclusivity, safety and club management.

Many of the club's members have been well respected and efficient officials and administrators. For example, LFCC organised the 1954 25 mile RTTC Championships and then in 1974 the RTTC 12 Hours Championship. Club members have also played major roles at Track Championships both at National and World level.

With an improved awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, a national focus on active travel and the increase in the popularity of cycle-sport due to success of British athletes on the world stage, our numbers are reflecting the current boom in cycling and our membership has almost doubled in the last 20 years.

As we take the club into its second century our aims are to continue to add meaning to being Leicestershire’s friendly cycling club through increasing opportunities to participate in cycling, improving diversity and furthering inclusivity in our club, focussing on the development of the next generation of LFCC riders - who are our future - and to continue to represent the interests of bicycle riders in Leicester and Leicestershire. Drop us a line, we’d love to have you with us on the ride.

CELEBRATING OUR CENTENARY IN STYLE

Leicester Forest CC celebrated its 100 year anniversary on Saturday April 22nd, at The Linford not far from Bradgate Park. It was great to see so many members old and new, young, and not so young, as well as plenty of cyclists from neighbouring clubs join us on the day.

We had a pop up cafe serving hot drinks, cakes and our famous sausage rolls, there was an extensive exhibition of the previous 100 years. Kit from across the years on display and the whole day culminated in our club ride, around the beautiful Charnwood and beyond. Starting with 100km all the way up to 100 miles.
