Sunday Social Club Ride (including cafe stop)

Update 29/09/21

Following changes to club rides during the pandemic, we are back to business as usual for Sunday Social rides. Rides are now arranged via Spond (search for the app or visit https://spond.com/welcome).

  • If you are a club member and do not have details for Spond please email membership@leicesterforest.com.

  • If you’d like to try use out before joining, please register with Spond and let us know here the email address you’ve used to register with Spond. We’ll add you into a temporary LFCC Guest group for up to 8 weeks (before you get the boot), which will allow you to sign up for any club ride. Joining the club is a modest £15!

Meeting point is at the Bulls Head Car Park on the A47 just down from the Desford Crossroads at 09.30am returning to the same place for approximately 1pm.

This ride has a "No Drop" policy -  The group stays together for the whole ride, helping and encouraging members during any tough sections.

There is usually a group out most Sundays with a core of regulars, with routes and meet points (usually the Bull’s Head) agreed on Spond. Riders should look out for and assist each other where necessary when out on a club ride.

This is an ideal ride for those seeking an introduction to club cycling at a more leisurely pace, to build confidence before joining the faster paced club rides.  So this is a great starting ride for those wanting to improve their fitness, build up their speed and distance before attempting the faster and longer Saturday rides that the club also has to offer. Non-members are welcome as are e-bikes.

A typical ride is a 30 – 35 mile loop from the Bulls Head with a cafe stop at the Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre, after about 25 miles, so a short ride/sprint back to start is usually the order of the day. The ride pace varies from an average of 14 to 16 mph depending on the numbers out and the ability of the group.

We won't leave anyone behind and if some are struggling just off the pace, then we'll make some short cuts, split the group or whatever is needed to enjoy the ride for all and get to the cafe!

Riders who are unsure as to whether they'll keep up with the regulars are still welcome and groups of new riders needing some time to get up to the regular pace can still join in with shorter rides to meet up at the café, and from time to time some of the regulars will offer a slower paced ride for first timers. Coming prepared with a map, GPS device or smartphone app is always a good idea if you are new to the area and unfamiliar with the roads.

This is also a good ride for teenagers comfortable with group riding and experienced on road, and we have a few regular youngsters setting a very good pace.

All juniors under the age of 18 years may join the ride providing they bring along a signed parental consent form.

Juniors under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Forms should be passed to an adult club member on the ride.

It would be appreciated if this member could pass the form to a committee member or forward it to the club’s welfare officer (welfare@leicesterforest.com).

So what are you waiting for, come out and enjoy a Sunday social ride with Leicester Forest Cycling Club.
