LFCC in 1947

An old member (the oldest former member we know of) of the club got in touch and provided this great description of the club back in 1947…things both change and stay the same.

Hi.

I googled LFCC and was amazed that you still existed.

I joined LFCC in 1947 and it was a much smaller club then, probably about 60 members at most. It was a very friendly club. Sunday club runs were always taken at the pace of the slowest rider. We would stop at a pub for a pint and our packed lunches then continue to the highlight of the day, our pre-booked tea stop, where we had a table full of sandwiches and cakes. which was quite remarkable in post war Britain where everything was still rationed.

We held time trials on the six hills road, massed start races in Spinney Hill park and grass track races in Abbey park and the concrete track of Wicksteed park.

I am now in my 90’s but frequently think of my cycling days.

Still vertical.
